Join us for a fun evening learning the basics of modern, pointed pen calligraphy! This workshop is perfect for total newbies or beginners in calligraphy who are looking to develop their skills in this amazing art form. New research from University College London has even shown the positive effects that calligraphy and other creative hobbies can have on our emotional health and well-being: being creative can help to relieve stress and combat anxiety, improve wellbeing and boost self-esteem through the improvement of self- development. What doesn’t sound great about that?!
We'll cover the basics including how to prepare your pen and nib, and will move on to learning how to create the basic shapes that make up every letter of the calligraphy alphabet. Once we've mastered letters we'll look at how to join them together to create basic words and phrases and by the end of the workshop you'll have gained the confidence to create your own favourite words and quotes!
If you're worried that your handwriting is too messy to be able to learn calligraphy - don't be!!!! The important thing to remember about calligraphy is that at it's core, it's art (not writing!) so no matter what your everyday handwriting looks like, it will have no bearing on what your calligraphy will look like. Calligraphy is also suitable for both right and left handed people (though please just let me know if you're a leftie as you'll likely need a slightly different pen holder).
The price of the workshop includes prosecco or soft drink on arrival and your own calligraphy starter kit which includes a pen holder, nib, ink, worksheets and spare paper to practice on, and a luxury blank card, envelope and gift tag for you to put your new skills in to practice!

Cancellations made more than 48 hours prior to the start of the workshop will receive a full refund, minus payment and admin fees of £3.50. Unfortunately, cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to the workshop are not eligible for refunds. However, your calligraphy starter pack will still be yours - local delivery in Histon and Impington is free, or delivery can be arranged elsewhere for postage costs of £3.50.
